Benedict - To betray to switch side. American Revolutionary general and traitor Benedict Arnold whose plan to surrender West Point to the British for 20,000 pounds was foiled when his accomplice John André was captured (1780). Arnold fled to New York and then to England (1781). Informant- One who informs against others; an informer. An informant (sometimes informer) is someone who provides information to law enforcement agencies. An informer historically refers to someone in Ireland who provided a flow of inside information to state security agencies, usually for financial gain and/or immunity from prosecution, while purporting to be a member or sympathiser of the targeted political organisation. Judas- One who betrays another under the guise of friendship. Judas Iscariot was one of the 12 deciples of Jesus who decided to betray him to the Scribes and Pharisees for 30 pieces of silver. The resulted in the eventual crisifixion of Jesus. Rat- A despicable person, especially one who betrays or informs upon associates. Snake- A treacherous person. Also called snake in the grass. Snitch-To give incriminating information about others, especially to the authorities. To turn informer: He snitched on his comrades. Stool Pigion- Slang. A person acting as a decoy or as an informer, especially one who is a spy for the police. Witness- To testify to; bear witness. One who can give a firsthand account of something seen, heard, or experienced: a witness to the accident. Whistle Blower- One who reveals wrongdoing within an organization to the public or to those in positions of authority. | |
